I am back at the office after jury duty, and very thankful that I was excused, as the case was expected to last for a month. [Aside: what would we do without the Daily Deac for a full month?!?!] Today has been absolutely jammed for me, so cutting right to the chase.

Walk with Wente: Nina Lucas, Professor of Dance

Many of you have told me you enjoy getting to see behind the curtain at some of the work our faculty do. Today we got a new edition of Dr. Wente’s series of informal walk and talks with our faculty:

“At Wake Forest, we celebrate faculty who are both outstanding teachers and brilliant scholars. To celebrate our community of inquiry, President Wente invites faculty members to share their contributions and insights with the Wake Forest community by joining her on a ‘Walk with Wente.’ In the most recent episode, she walks and talks with Nina Lucas, Professor of Dance, about how combining dance and academics is a win-win for students at Wake Forest. They discuss teaching students how to connect something in their lives with dance, the benefits of dance as a communication tool, and the need to stay authentic and explore.”

While I don’t know Nina deeply on a personal level, we have had occasion to work together from time to time over the years and she is someone I deeply admire. Hope you enjoy this video.

Photostory and URECA Day (undergraduate research)

A new photostory has been published about summer research that students did as part of URECA (Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Center): Research: A catalyst for change. Undergraduate students and their faculty mentors engaged in summer research projects.

If you are coming for Family Weekend, you can join in URECA Day and see the incredible research that your students are doing:

“Held in conjunction with Fall Family Weekend, URECA Day (formerly Undergraduate Research Day) is one of the highlights of the Wake Forest academic year. Students from across the disciplines present posters and oral presentations on their mentored or independent scholarship. This celebration of ideas allows family, friends, faculty, staff, and fellow students to come together and enjoy an afternoon of academically diverse poster and oral presentations.”

URECA Day is Friday, Sept. 27 from 3-5 p.m. in the Sutton Center.

Photostory on the Peyton Manning Face to Face event

I was not able to attend the Face to Face with Peyton Manning last week, so I was very happy to see this photostory about the evening.

One more question about the Family Weekend tailgate

I received an additional question about the Family Weekend Tailgate. Here goes:

Q: At the tailgate do we bring our own beverages? Or will there be food and beverage for sale there?

A: Free food will be available on a limited basis during the Student Tailgate, and beer and wine will be available for purchase with a valid identification. Note that families who wish to attend the Student Tailgate area with their student must have a valid game ticket and their Family Weekend credentials for entry at 12:30 pm. Bringing your own food and beverage to the Student Tailgate is not allowed. There will also be food for purchase within the stadium when it opens.

There will also be student organizations, as well as individual friend groups, who host their own tailgates in the parking lots surrounding the stadium. Check with your student directly to find out if their organization is hosting a tailgate, and if you need to bring your own food and drink if you wish to attend.
