I hope that over the course of your student’s tenure at Wake Forest, they make lifelong friends. There are points after graduation where it gets hard to make time for your friends if you aren’t in close geographic distance: for many, you are establishing a career (and maybe don’t have a lot of PTO), or tending to a romantic relationship, or caring for young children. But as time goes by, your life gets a little more flexible and you can nurture those friendships in new ways.

I have a handful of Wake girls that are still like my sisters even 30+ years after graduation. And every other year we get together for a girls weekend in early July, which is one of the things that restores me. I’m out tomorrow through Friday to be with them (but have pre-posted Daily Deacs). Hope you have a great rest of your week!

Beckman Foundation appoints President Wente to Board of Directors

I saw this on news.wfu.edu and wanted to share it with you.

“The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation has appointed Wake Forest University President Susan R. Wente to its Board of Directors. Located in Irvine, California, the Beckman Foundation supports researchers and nonprofit research institutions in making the next generation of breakthroughs in chemistry and the life sciences.

‘It is an incredible honor to have Dr. Wente join the Beckman Foundation Board of Directors,’ said Andrew Lyon, chair of the board of directors for the Foundation. ‘Since joining the Beckman Family as a Beckman Young Investigator in 1996, Dr. Wente has continually distinguished herself as a true scholar, building a world-class research program over the course of her career. She has also demonstrated remarkable acumen as a leader in higher education, rising to her current role as President of Wake Forest University. The Foundation will benefit tremendously from her diversity of experiences, and her visionary approach to supporting excellence in STEM research and education.’”

WFU in the News July 1-7

For those of you who like to follow where Wake Forest people are in the news, we have the latest edition of WFU in the News. Two headlines that caught my eye were 3 ways AI can smooth our inevitable move to a four-day workweek and Wake Forest, High Point University considering dental residency collaboration – but you may see other news that interests you.
