  • Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This morning was one of those times where it might be a serious struggle for your students to take care of their normal responsibilities: it was low 70s and sunny and there was a gorgeous breeze. That’s pretty much my ideal spring weather, not too hot, not too cool, and wonderful to have the wind in your hair. [Note: I wrote this late morning (when it was gorgeous) and there may be rain coming later, so we’ll see what happens.]

I imagine that an awful lot of our students might have a massive case of Spring Fever when the weather is this nice. If so, I would encourage them to go to their classes as normal, but spend as much non-class time outdoors if they can.

Reminder of Black Hawk helicopter landing on campus tomorrow

Just a reminder in case you get a panicky text from your students tomorrow afternoon, we are scheduled to have Black Hawk helicopters landing on campus:

“UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters will land on Wake Forest University’s Poteat Field as part of an ROTC training exercise. The aircraft are scheduled to land around 3:15 p.m. Thursday 4/4 and will transport ROTC cadets to Camp Butner Training Center for a joint field training exercise with other ROTC programs.” Read more.

We shared news this with students last Thursday in their WFU Should Know weekly e-newsletter, but in case they forget, wanted families to be in the know. And if your Deacs are not in class tomorrow afternoon, they should come over to watch this take place. I have seen it before and it is impressive.

Students should get involved with DESK

DESK is one of our signature spring service events. If your Deac isn’t clued in to it, here is what they need to know:

“DESK Team registration closes Wednesday, April 10, or until all spots have been filled. Grab your friends, student org or residence hall and register a team for DESK! This year’s event will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 3-6 p.m. on Upper Davis Field, with a rain date scheduled for Tuesday, April 16. You’ll be paired with an elementary school student and their family to help them paint their desk.”

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

I got a message about April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and upcoming events:

“The Safe Office and Office of Wellbeing are honored to be able to host a month full of events in collaboration with partners across the University. Nationally, this year’s theme is ‘Building Connected Communities.’ See the calendar of events.”
