I strongly suspect a lot of our students were waiting with bated breath until midnight lastnight for the drop of the new Taylor Swift album, The Tortured Poets Department (and bonus to them if they were up at 2 a.m. for the surprise release of the second album, TTPD: The Anthology). Are your Deacs Swifties? Take this survey and let us know.

Here’s a few things to know as we close out this second to last full week of classes.

CLASS events: CLASS Cafe 4/24; Exam Prep 4/29

My friends in CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) want to be sure your Deacs know about these upcoming events:

  • CLASS Cafe (Weds., April 24). CLASS Cafe is a time for students, faculty, and staff to gather for yummy food and fun conversations on the Quad, right outside the CLASS office. I’m told there will be a special feature that day with our Delta Alpha Pi (DAPi) honor society. Delta Alpha Pi (DAPi) is an academic honor society founded to recognize high-achieving students with disabilities. The chapter was started last year and there are currently have 71 members. I’m told that Seniors will be picking up their chords and the DAPi leadership board students will present the inaugural Accessibility Champion award to the staff/faculty member who goes above and beyond to support students with disabilities.
  • Exam Prep session (Mon., 4/29). There will be a session to help students learn how to build their finals study plan. Who doesn’t want to go into finals week feeling prepared and confident in their preparation?!?

Class CAFE is always a great event and a lot of fun, and this one looks to be even more meaningful with the aforementioned recognitions. And if your Deac needs some support strategies relative to finals, the Exam Prep session could be a huge help.

Wake Study Space website

I suspect by this point in the year, your Deacs have figured out their primary study locations. But as finals approach, spaces like the ZSR Library have decidedly more traffic, so your Deacs might need to find some additional options. The Wake Study Space website is a terrific resource the College puts together about available spaces.

Interim Housing and Summer Housing message

The Office of Residence Life and Housing shared this message about Interim Housing and Summer Housing.

Podcast on AI and Healthcare featuring WFU professor

One of my colleagues shared that our very own Dr. Amol Joshi of the School of Business and School of Medicine was interviewed as part of Forbes Books podcast series on Smarter Healthcare with AI hosted by Dr. Hassan Tetteh. Their discussion focused on “Nurturing Healthcare AI: Academia’s Critical Role.” Listen to Part 1 of the podcast; listen to Part 2.

Palindrome Week coming up

Tomorrow starts 10 days of Palindrome Week. A palindrome week happens when every day of the week can be read the same forwards and backwards.

Palindrome week 2024 - where every date can be read the same forward or backward

That’s your fun trivia to wrap up this week. Wishing you all a great weekend!
