Whether you were rooting for the Chiefs or the 49ers lastnight, waiting to see Usher, Taylor Swift, or the commercials (Beyoncé!), I hope those who were watching the Super Bowl lastnight had a good time.

Test Anxiety workshop

In partnership with Student Government Association and Mental Health Week, CLASS Academic coaches will be hosting a workshop on Test Anxiety:

I also want to put a plug in for the academic coaching and peer tutoring services CLASS offers. It’s about the point in the semester when students might start having test or quiz grades, and they might be thinking about how to bolster their learning. Having an academic coach or attending tutoring might be a great additive.

NSF CAREER award winners

Two of our physics professors recently received the prestigious NSF (National Science Foundation) CAREER Awards:

“Assistant Professors of Physics Ajay Ram Srimath Kandada and Stephen M. Winter have each been granted National Science Foundation CAREER awards, which recognize the best and brightest talent in the United States. Together, the two grants total more than $1 million.

The five-year grants are awarded to junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through research and education.”

Very exciting to know these faculty – and so many talented others – are teaching our students. A high tide rises all boats, and it is great to learn from the best and brightest. You can learn more about that and other stories of academic excellence on the Provost’s website.

Wake baseball tops USA TODAY preseason coaches poll

We had a strong win in the Joel on Saturday with our men’s basketball Deacs beating NC State. And for the baseball fans among us, there is this good news:

“After the release of the final preseason poll from USA TODAY Sports, the Wake Forest baseball team enters the 2024 season as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. The Demon Deacons were also ranked No. 1 in polls conducted by Perfect Game, Baseball America, D1 Baseball and the NCBWA. After advancing to the national semifinals and returning to the College World Series for the first time since 1955, Wake Forest closed the 2023 season ranked No. 3 by USA TODAY.”

That’s all I’ve got for you on this grey and intermittently drizzly Monday. Hope your week is off to a great start, Daily Deacdom!
