The news you have all been waiting for is here: the ACC released the fall football schedule last night and there are dates to mark on your calendar!

Family Weekend: September 27-29

Shortly after the release of the football schedule, the staff who plan Family Weekend have already released the date for Family Weekend: September 27-29. On September 28, our football game will be against Louisiana (note that we will not know kickoff time until 10 days before the game).

None of the details of Family Weekend are set yet other than the date, so for now, mark your calendars and start the process of securing lodging if you need it. For a list of local hotels, check our hotels page or  visitwinstonsalem.com. Please also consider Airbnbs, VRBOs, etc. as well as hotels outside the immediate near-campus/downtown Winston-Salem vicinity; there are some great hotels in Greensboro and High Point (about a 30ish minute drive from campus).

Family Weekend registration typically opens sometime in the summer, and as we get closer to summer the Family Weekend website will have more information about the schedule, events, etc. We appreciate your patience as we begin working on the weekend’s events.

Homecoming: September 13-15

Alumni families will want to note that Homecoming will be held September 13-15. Our Alumni Engagement team will be working on that event and providing details via their website in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned. There will be special reunion events for classes ending in 4s and 9s, so if you fall in one of those classes, look for info from your reunion committee in the coming months.

TEDxWakeForestU: Feb. 8

I got an update from one of the student leaders with our TEDxWakeForestU event that I wanted to share with y’all:

TEDxWakeForestU is an event that showcases 5 different speakers coming from diverse professional backgrounds and life experiences worth sharing. We aim to provoke thought and create engagement by sharing ideas from individuals who have made groundbreaking strides in their field. Each speaker has been carefully chosen to cater to the interest of Wake Forest students and the surrounding Winston-Salem community.

This year, we are staying connected to fields including business, arts & photography, culinary arts, law, military service, technology, and entrepreneurship. TEDxWakeForestU Staying ConnecTED 2024 is a free event that will be hosted in Wait Chapel on Thursday, February 8th. Make sure to register to save your seat for this Wake tradition!”

While we hope your students will register to attend, if you are going to be in the area, we hope you’ll register too!

Clarification on student profiles

After yesterday’s Daily Deac, some readers have asked how they can get their students featured here. As much as I wish I could feature every one of our amazing students, the truth is we have so many doing such great things, it would be impossible to do them all justice. The reason I included the news story yesterday was because it made the local TV news broadcast. When local media picks up a student interest story and broadcasts it on their program, we tend to amplify the video in the Daily Deac.
