Move-in is this weekend. Monday is a holiday in observance of MLK, and classes begin on Wednesday the 17th. It’s getting real now!

How students learn about weather-related delays or closures

I know there are folks in parts of the country who may be getting a lot of snow this weekend, or brutal cold temperatures. It remains to be seen if Winston-Salem will get any significant snow or ice this winter, but every January we like to remind families of how students learn about weather-related delays or closures:

“Students, faculty and staff at Wake Forest will be informed of any weather-related campus closings and delays this winter by numerous means:

Text and voice messages will be sent to all student, faculty and staff cell phones registered to receive Wake Alert emergency messages. To register your cell phone, visit Wake Alert.

A notification will be posted on the Wake Safe app, the University’s free safety app. Learn how to turn on notifications here. The app is accessible to users outside the Wake Forest system, so family members also can download the app and receive alerts.”

If you have not downloaded Wake Safe, please do. That is our new method for sharing campus safety alerts with families (we no longer email families directly).

And while I certainly hope this doesn’t happen, if emergency weather conditions prevent your Deac from returning to campus for the first day of classes, they will need to contact their spring semester professors directly to let them know of their delay.

Campus social media accounts

Now that we have some Early Decision P’28 families in the Daily Deacdom, I thought it might be a good time to remind that we have a social media page that shows you the top-level accounts run by our various campus entities. That said, there are a lot of additional department-level social media accounts, and you can find them on individual department pages. Give any offices of interest a follow, and encourage your students to do the same!

Message to resident students about the return to campus

Yesterday the Office of Residence Life and Housing sent this message to resident students about the return to campus.

Updated 2023 Annual Crime and Fire Safety Report available

A campuswide message went out this afternoon to share that the 2023 Annual Crime and Fire Safety Report Report, timely issued on Sept. 29, 2023, has been updated to reflect technical changes to geographic reporting, upon advice of the Department of Education. You can read the full message here.

Administrative offices closed on Monday for MLK holiday

While administrative offices are closed on Monday, I have pre-posted a Daily Deac about NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Conference) intake, for families with students interested in NPHC membership.

Students can see the MLK hours of service for dining, shuttles, university stores, and mail service.
