Happy Friday, Deac families! It’s the end of a hot week on campus, and here’s the news of the day.

Student employment on campus – send them here with the right documentation

There are a wide variety of part-time jobs that students can get on campus. I’m thinking particularly of Campus Rec, typically the largest student employer on campus; they need students to work the Wellbeing Center desk, teach classes, referee intramurals, and so much more.

Whether they work at Campus Rec or another area on campus, having a part-time job helps students gain transferable skills, build their résumé, and can increase their marketability when looking for jobs or internships later. Having a campus job also helps create a sense of belonging, connection, professionalism, and networking for our students.

In order for your student to get a campus job, they have to being the right documentation with them to campus:

Student employees are required by federal law to complete the Form I-9. Employees must provide documentation to their employer to verify their identity and authorization to work. Employers are required to review the original and unexpired documents, not a photo, copy, or via video. A description of acceptable documentation is available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-9 website.

If your student plans to pursue an on-campus employment opportunity this year, please remind them to bring their original Form I-9 documents when they arrive this fall. You don’t want them to miss weeks of work (and the bonding/networking with other student employees and staff) because you have to find their paperwork and mail it to them.

The Student Employment Website is updated throughout the year with some of the latest opportunities. Additional roles may be posted on WFU departmental websites and social media.

Mailing to campus – yes, there are 2 zip codes! It is not a typo

P O Box numbers for new students will be assigned near August 1st, but I want to share info now about something that is perennially confusing to families: which zip code to use to mail things to your students.

I would encourage everyone to bookmark our Mail Services website that has parent and family info/Q&A.

Important note: we have two different zip codes: 27106 for UPS, FedEx, DHL, and 27109 for US Postal mail. It is not a typo. There are legitimately two zip codes depending on which carrier you use.

Again, it is best to keep the Mail Services website bookmarked and refer to it as you mail things.

Barbie movie – think pink!

I imagine your Deacs might be attuned to the pop culture phenomenon that is the Barbie movie, opening today. Maybe they will be going to see it this weekend (or Oppenheimer, the other biggie that is set to open). If you are in a part of the country that is sweltering in this heat, maybe you’ll go to the movies just to be someplace cool!

So in honor of the Barbiecore craze that seems to be sweeping social media around the movie’s release, I thought we’d end on a light note today with some of the best pictures from our photo archive of all things pink.

Have a great weekend, Daily Deacdom!
