Baseball Coach Tom Walter named ACC Coach of the Year

Great news in an already great baseball year: our head coach, Tom Walter, was named the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon:

“Walter became the third Demon Deacon skipper to receive Coach of the Year honors (George Greer and Marvin Crater) after leading the 2023 Wake Forest ballclub to a historic regular season.

The Deacs finished the regular season with program records in wins (45), conference wins (22) and conference series victories (10). Additionally, Wake Forest led the nation in wins and winning percentage.”

Congratulations to Coach Walter! And as my husband is fond of saying, “I just want them to win their last game.” 🙂

PS – for those of you who don’t know the story, Coach Walter donated a kidney to one of his players back in 2011. As good as he is as a coach, he is an even better human being.

WFU in the News May 15-21

I have been remiss about sharing the WFU in the News feature for those of you who enjoy seeing where Wake Foresters are quoted in the media. Here is the May 15-21 issue.

Weekly message for new families

It’s Tuesday, so that means I have written this week’s Weekly Message for New Families to tell you the things you need to be thinking about and doing this week (or in the near term). New families, you can read the message here (we will be delayed in getting it to your Inbox due to a glitch – I will try to get it sent in the morning – thank you for your patience).

We begin each of these messages with the BLUF (Bottom Line, Up Front) so you can see what the message contains. Here is today’s message BLUF:

  • Sign up for a virtual New Student Reception (June 27 or July 17)
  • Upcoming tasks/deadlines for families
  • Academic Advising call and how your students should prepare
  • Your student’s email and login
  • Make a plan for your student to have a laptop (consider WakeWare!)
  • Required health and immunization forms – very important info!
  • Housing and Dining Accommodations form

The one thing I would absolutely ask you to look at is that your student is completing their required health and immunization forms in the Student Health Portal. Those forms must be completed by July 1 – that’s a hard/immovable deadline.

Mold and mildew prevention info for resident students

The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent this message to resident students about how to prevent mold and mildew. It contains some important DOs and DON’Ts that any students living in University housing should adhere to.
