It’s a new week, the sun is shining, and there is a lot going on – so we’ll get right to it!

Jacqueline Travisano named Executive Vice President

President Wente sent a message to the campus community this morning announcing a new member of her senior leadership team:

“I am excited to share with you that Jacqueline A. Travisano, Ed.D., MBA, CPA, will join Wake Forest as executive vice president and chief financial officer in July. In this vital role, she will advance the University’s strategic priorities and identify and allocate resources to support Wake Forest’s academic mission….In the EVP role, Dr. Travisano will oversee the University’s financial operations and have responsibility for human resources, facilities and campus services, information systems, real estate, and hospitality and auxiliary services.”

Dr. Travisano will succeed current EVP Hof Milam, a Wake Forest alumnus and former Wake Forest parent (P’00, ’04). He announced his planned retirement earlier this year. Many thanks to Hof for his 12 years of distinguished service to Wake Forest, and we look forward to welcoming Dr. Travisano this summer.

Congratulations to our Wake ‘N Shakers!

Many thanks to all the students, faculty, staff, and supporters who made this year’s Wake ‘N Shake 12-hour dance marathon a success! Our dancers raised an astonishing $248K for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund! Go Deacs!

Wake 'N Shake 2023 raised an astonishing $248,234.50. Thank you for supporting cancer research!

Test anxiety workshop (plus bonus dog!), March 29

With only 4ish weeks left of classes (LDOC is on April 26), students may be starting to think about the prospect of final exams. And for some students, thinking about tests means feeling a lot of test anxiety.

Never fear, CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) is here:

“Back by popular demand, a CLASS one hour mini-workshop presenting students with workable…

WHAT:  “Strategies for Battling Test Anxiety”

WHEN: Wednesday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: at WakerSpace

At the end… Cedric the dog will be there for pets, cuddles, and lots of de-stressing!”

As if the content of the workshop was not enough to persuade your Deacs to go, may they be convinced by the very handsome Cedric, seen below. (I’m a dog person. I’d go just for the dog snuggles.) Interested Deacs can register for the workshop here.

Wakeville Arts Festival this Saturday

If your Deacs are looking for something to do this weekend, I highly recommend the Wakeville Arts Festival:

“This Saturday is the Wakeville Arts Festival, Wake Forest’s first student-led, interdisciplinary arts festival. Wakeville Arts Festival will feature over 100 students from 12 disciplines in 1 day, connecting the various arts departments at Wake Forest to each other and the rest of campus. This is your arts community. We can’t wait to see you there. See the full schedule.”

DESK service project registration (by April 12)

DESK is an annual springtime event at Wake. Local elementary school students are paired with teams of Wake students to design and paint a new desk, with roughly 60 desks painted each year. This is a LOT of fun – students come up with some amazing designs and they create beautiful desks for the schoolchildren. I highly recommend it.

This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, April 19th from 3-6:30 p.m. on Davis Field, and your Deacs can register for DESK here. Registration closes on April 12.

Final Secrest Artists Series concert postponed

If any of our Daily Deac-ers were planning on coming to campus this week for the Secrest Artists Series concerts, I am sad to tell you that the March 29 and 31 concerts by violinist Rachel Podger are being postponed due to illness. You can check back at the Secrest Artists Series website for updates (I don’t have any intel about rescheduling).

As I said at the start of this post, there’s a lot going on. For our Gen X families, here’s another way of saying that 🙂
