Editor’s Note: corrected links have been provided for Black Tie Transportation and Family Weekend ticket sales

This weekend is Homecoming, and we welcome back all our alumni, but particularly those celebrating reunions (classes ending in 2s and 7s). The weather looks great for the weekend and I know it will be a terrific time for all.

Some of you have asked me about airport shuttle options for Fall Break (October 13-16). There are several options for your students to get to the Greensboro or Charlotte airports:

If your student is going to Raleigh/Durham, they would want to use one of the latter three options.

There are tradeoffs involved with the various airports – price, direct flight availability, ground transportation cost, etc. This can be what I call a Column A-Column B situation, where you can’t get something from Column A and Column B, so you have to pick the thing that is most important to you.

For example: some people don’t want to fly into Greensboro because it might require a connection to get there…but it is also the closest airport and will have the cheapest ground transportation costs. Again, there is no right or wrong, just what is right for your family. You pick the option that gives you the most of what you want, and you understand and accept the tradeoffs it might require.

Since Monday is reserved for Meet A Deac, let me offer a couple of reminders of events coming up next week, or important info:

  • Re: Family Weekend: Please note that online t-shirt sales will close September 19 at 11:59 PM (t-shirts can be purchased via Family Weekend registration). A limited number of t-shirts will be available for purchase during the weekend. Football tickets should be purchased here (while supplies last). Starting on September 20, any changes to existing Family Weekend event ticket orders will become non-refundable.
  • Milkshake Monday will be Monday, September 19th: “Start your week off sweet with a free milkshake from Campus Life and Deacon Dining! Swing by Shorty’s on Monday, Sept. 19 between noon and 12:30 p.m. for a complimentary milkshake.”
  • National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Tribble Courtyard. Please also see the Office of Civic and Community Engagement’s comprehensive voter information website.
  • The Study Abroad Fair is also on Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 12-4 p.m. in Benson Center 401. Students can learn about study abroad options, learn about Wake and Affiliate programs, make an appointment with a Study Abroad Advisor, and learn about passport and visa application requirements.

These aren’t the only things happening next week. Remind your Deac to use the Events section of The Link to look for events that interest them.
