I am out on PTO all week, so have pre-posted Daily Deacs this week.

In anticipation that, like me, you might be having a post-Thanksgiving turkey coma 🙂 I decided to make today’s blog an easy one. Today we are featuring a look back at the fall semester through the lens of my terrific colleague and friend, master photographer Ken Bennett. A feast for the eyes, if you will.

Also, I learned that right before the holidays, our chess club had a great tournament performance. I’m grateful to Josiah Brinson (’24) for telling the story:

“Wake Forest’s chess club is called Rook & Bishop, and we meet weekly throughout the semester – all students/faculty/staff are welcome! If anyone is interested in getting involved, they should feel free to contact me (brinjn20@wfu.edu) or our president, Alfonso Berguido (bergaa18@wfu.edu).

Our club participates in the Collegiate Chess League (CCL), an online league that for the Fall 2021 season consisted of 160 teams formed from over 100 national and international universities. This past season, which ran from September 18 through November 21, we featured a 4-player team that competed in weekly matches within a division consisting of 16 teams. Our team did not lose a single regular-season match (though several matches were tied) and we were a favorite going into the playoffs. In the playoffs, we took 2nd place within our 16-team division, winning $500 for our club. This was an incredible CCL performance for our new and underrated team, and we are hyped to compete again in the spring semester!”

Congratulations to Rook & Bishop! Have a great long weekend, everyone 🙂
