Happy Friday, Deac families! It’s the end of a glorious week – it’s been sunny, upper 60s/low 70s – and I have had the good fortune to interact with a number of students this week, which was really wonderful. When I asked them how things have been going, almost to a person they have said that the COVID surge of January-Feb was stressful, but they are feeling much better now, and they feel optimistic. Their optimism seems to come from a couple of places: more and more students are getting the vaccine (and that brings increased relief), they can see the finish line for their classes (and they know they will soon have the summer to relax and recharge their batteries), and they are excited about a much more normal fall semester.

This weekend is Wakechella (like Coachella), a music festival which includes a campus concert watch party. It will be taking place on Saturday, April 17th from 3 pm – 9 pm. There will be food trucks, vendors, games, and local performers, as well as a virtual performance by Wiz Khalifa. It will be a great event, so hope your Deacs make it out for it.

Keeping with the outdoors theme, I came across these pictures of our very talented Wake Forest Theatre, who staged The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare, this past weekend. They held the performance outdoors in front of a socially distanced live audience. For any of you who have been to Shakespeare in the Park in the past, think of this as our own special WFU version 🙂

As we close out the week, it’s a great time to call your Deacs. You know why.

LATE ADDITION BEFORE DEADLINE: we just sent a COVID-19 update out to the campus community and families; read it here.
