Missed a few bits of news yesterday since Mondays are Meet A Deac days, but want to offer belated congratulations to Brianna Aaron (‘22) and Ruby Klein (‘21) for winning the 2021 ACC Debate Championship. Go Deacs! We have an incredible debate program; so glad to see these fine students recognized.

Congratulations to Noah Meyer (’21), who studies physics and applied mathematics, has been awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. Meyer, who is from Dayton, Ohio, plans to pursue a PhD in physics in the field of condensed matter theory. Read more.

Also want to offer congratulations to Will Zalatoris, who had played with our men’s golf team, and who came in 2nd in the Masters this past weekend. It was a tremendous performance – you can read more here. We look forward to watching his career unfold. Go Deacs!

Catching up on emails that went out yesterday:

The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent a message to undergraduates about move-out appointments and the move-out process.

Letters So Dear was sent to our ’24 students; you can also read the archive.

We also have an important email going out: the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) collects, from schools across the country, information about first-year and senior students’ participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and personal development. The results provide an estimate of how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. If you are a P’21 or P’24, please encourage your Deacs to be on the lookout for the survey invitation, which will come today (Tuesday, April 13th) from nsse@nssesurvey.org with a subject line of “Please help by completing NSSE.”  Once they receive the invite, encourage them to click on the link and complete the survey.

I can’t stress enough how important survey participation is. From my personal experience in grad school, I know that the more people who complete a survey, the better data we end up with – which enables us to better know our community, make better institutional decisions, etc. Thank you in advance, P’21s and P’24s for your help!

A message went out to the campus community this afternoon from the Student Health Service about the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine; you can read it here.

Student Government elections are today! Students should check their email for directions on how to vote. Student Government elections flyer

Last up today, Ramadan begins this evening, and we wish a blessed and generous month to all who are observing.
