Today we had a campus update announcing that we will remain in Orange operating status for the remainder of the semester. This is a result of cases rising on campus, plus concerning trends both locally and nationally. You can read the full message here; it was sent to parents and families too. Of critical importance is that members of our campus community 1) wear masks whenever they are in the presence of other people, and 2) avoid crowded places. Please reinforce that message with your Deacs.
Since we are just under 14 days before the last day on campus, we hope that students have begun limiting social interaction before traveling to reduce their risk of exposure and to try and protect the health and safety of family at home. Students can revisit the pre departure quarantine information from the message from Dr. Penny Rue that was sent to them on November 5th.
It has rained a lot this week, pretty much all day yesterday and a good bit of today. Residence Life and Housing sent a message to all resident students asking them to be alert to any facilities issues from the rain; read it here.
Earlier this week, Ken Bennett captured some photos of a really cool public art project outside the ZSR (and I hope it is withstanding the rain). the project is titled How Are You Doing, Really? and I am told it was created for Art 215 by Meghan Pressimone (’21). The project consists of a giant nasal swab, and a QR code that leads to a survey on the viewer’s mental health during COVID. I think this is supercool.
As a reminder, for any families who need to come to campus to bring your student home at the break, you will need to print out this gate pass and display it on your dashboard so you can access campus. (This is only valid for coming to collect your student at the break; campus is still only open to students, faculty, and staff for normal daily operations). Also please remember that only students are allowed in the residence halls. Your student can bring their luggage or other bags out of the residence hall so you can help load it in your car.
Looks like we might finally see the sun tomorrow. Here’s to hoping! Stay safe and dry, Deac families!
