I’ve been in meetings a lot of today so this will be a short(ish) blog today. As I mentioned yesterday, the dashboard shows our cases are trending upward, but we are still controlled, and our asymptomatic positive tests are still quite low. It’s a reminder that COVID is not a predicable virus and Wake Forest is not immune to its effects, so we need to keep doing those things we know work: masking, social distancing, handwashing, and avoiding being in crowds, etc. Hope to have more information tomorrow to add some color to the dashboard numbers.
New cases mean we are doing contact tracing, which helps us find close contacts of positive cases. It is very important for students and families to know that if your student has been asked to quarantine (for COVID exposure) or isolate (if they are COVID positive), that determination has been made by medical professionals who are versed in the public health guidance related to COVID-19. Your students must comply with the request to quarantine or isolate. This is not a situation where the student (or their families) can ask for an appeal or change the outcome.
In non-COVID news, I am not sure I remember a prettier fall than the one we are having now. It has stayed warm, and hasn’t rained too much, which is a recipe for happy days. Took my normal weekend drive down Reynolda Road just near Reynolda Village and Graylyn and it is getting closer to peak leaves. Another two to three weeks and it should be a stunner.
To whet your whistle, here are some views of campus taken from the very top of Wait Chapel, plus a bonus WF pumpkin that some enterprising student carved. It’s really fabulous how we seem to run on an axis where we have downtown in one direction and Pilot Mountain in the other. On a related note, Campus Rec did a recent blog post that reviews some of the just-off-campus and local(ish) spots for hiking, picnics and more that are perfect for fall weather.
