We are closed today (Monday) because of the crazy snow storm we got over the weekend. At my house (about 3 miles from campus), we probably got 12 inches, with drifts up to 15-17″, because it was really windy. As I write this (9 am on Monday), it is actually snowing again. It is supposed to get up into the 40s today and rain, but so far all I see is snow.

Yesterday our Wake Alert website put up a Status page that shows the status of services on campus. You can consult it as needed. We know that students will begin traveling home as their finals conclude. If you are concerned about your student’s travel plans related to Winter Break, please consult travel resources such as the North Carolina Department of Transportation https://tims.ncdot.gov/TIMS/default.aspx, the airports students will be flying out of, and/or individual air carriers.

A number of brilliant hashtags appeared on social media yesterday, including #snOMG, #MotherSnowDear, and #SnowHumanitate. I don’t know which witty folks to credit with inventing them, but my hat is off to you.

Finally, I want to give a giant shout out to our facilities staff, food services, University Police, the ZSR Library, Residence Life and Housing, Student Health, and all the offices (too numerous to mention) who have ‘essential personnel’ who keep campus running during winter storms. I hope students give you all a giant thank you for keeping us safe, warm, and fed in the midst of Winter Storm Diego.
