Today’s Daily Deac is more business than pleasure, but it is an important topic for everyone: student health insurance.  Like most universities, Wake Forest requires students to have health insurance that provides access to health care providers in Winston-Salem, NC.

The deadline to either waive coverage (by proving your plan will cover your student locally) or enroll in the WFU Student Blue plan is August 27th.  If you do not act by August 27th, your student will be automatically enrolled in Student Blue and the cost will be charged to your student’s account, which must be paid in DEAC (Deacon Electronic Account Center) before your student can attend classes.

Early next week, parents who have not clarified their student’s insurance position will receive this email to remind you to make a health insurance election for your student.  I am copying the letter below so you can see what needs to be done in case you have not yet taken care of this.

Dear Wake Forest Parents:

We hope your student is getting excited about moving to campus shortly. As you may know, all Wake Forest students are required to have health insurance. We have not received your student’s insurance decision to either waive or enroll in the Wake Forest Student Insurance Program (SIP) and wanted to bring this to your attention so you can take appropriate action. Your student(s) will be automatically enrolled in the Student Blue insurance plan offered by Wake Forest if s/he does notcomplete a waiver by Monday, August 27, 2012.

INTEND TO WAIVE? Visit the enroll/waive website.

INTEND TO ENROLL? Then please enroll at this time and be sure to pay the appropriate premium on DEAC (Deacon Electronic Account Center), so you can ensure your student will not have a hold on his/her account. Merely paying the student bill with the insurancecharge DOES NOT automatically activate SIP coverage; you must complete the online form. ID cards will be delivered via US postal service 7-10 days following enrollment. Failure to enroll online will delay coverage activation and receipt of ID cards until after the August 27 deadline.

AUGUST 27 DEADLINE: Students who do not enter an insurance decision by August 27, 2012 will be automatically enrolled in the Wake Forest SIP for the entire 2012/2013 Academic Year. The insurance charge will remain on your student account and you will receive your insurance ID card after August 27, 2012. If you do not enter your decision and are automatically enrolled, you will be unable to waive for Fall 2012.

The Student Insurance Plan (SIP) is administered by BCBS of North Carolina. A full plan detail, rates, a schedule of benefits, dependent enrollment information and more information is available online. The University also provides a very informative site about the plan.
