Wake Ready and Campus Safety

For years, the Wake Alert emergency notification system has been familiar to many in the University community, but Wake Forest also encourages parents and families to be familiar with the Wake Ready website (wakeready.wfu.edu).

Visitors to the Wake Ready website will find it to be a constant resource for information related to potential emergencies and proper responses to them, key University contacts in emergencies, crime prevention, and more.  For instance, the Crime Prevention link offers numerous tips, such as downloading the University’s LiveSafe app and using the University’s shuttle system instead of walking alone at night.

One of the most practical links on the Wake Ready website takes a visitor to detailed information on how to report an emergency on and off campus.  In addition to providing emergency phone numbers for on and off-campus first responders, the website explains how to operate the University’s blue light call boxes (distributed across campus) and provides a map to find their locations.

For those still learning about Wake Alert, the Wake Ready website offers an overview of the emergency notification system and the numerous ways that the University may announce an emergency, such as text alerts, the Wake Alert website and e-mail.  

Parents and others can sign up to receive crime alerts on the Wake Ready web site.  While crime alerts are sent in real time to students, faculty and staff, they are not for others.  For those registered through Wake Ready, crime alerts are emailed daily at noon, but only if new alerts have been posted in the previous 24 hours.

If Your Student Has a Problem

One of the best ways parents/families can help their students is to let them solve their own problems. Use the Stop, Drop, and Roll method when your student contacts you with a problem.  The flyer also lists contact information for serious concerns where family intervention might be appropriate.
