WFU Police Investigating Numerous Car Break-ins
The University Police Department is investigating an extraordinary number of car break-ins on campus this month.
Since April 3, 16 car break-ins have been reported at locations across campus. Locations include lots H, J, Q and R2, as well as along Jasper Memory Lane and Allen Easley Drive. Lots H and J and Jasper Memory Lane are located at the southern end of campus, while lots Q and R2 and Allen Easley Drive are at the opposite end of campus.
Thieves have rummaged through the vehicles, opening compartments and apparently looking for such items as cash and purses.
Some vehicles had been left unlocked by drivers, others were locked. Police recommend that cars always be locked.
Officers are regularly patrolling lots and roads, but ask for the campus community’s assistance if suspicious behavior is seen in such areas. The University Police Department recommends calling 336-758-5911 to provide information that may assist in the investigation, including observing suspicious behavior. Also available is the Silent Witness web site. The web site is not recommended for reporting emergencies or crimes in progress.
