The following message was sent to first-year students participating in our Beijing program for Fall 2020.

Dear students,

Welcome to Wake Forest University!  My name is Janice Claybrook and I work in the Center for Global Programs and Studies at Wake Forest.  Throughout this fall semester, I and a team

of WFU colleagues look forward to serving as a campus resource team for you.  The resource team is made up of the following Wake Forest faculty and staff:

Janice Claybrook – Assistant Director of Study Abroad

Dr. Jon Smart – Assistant Teaching Professor of English

Rayna Harris – International Student and Scholar Services Advisor

Meghan Webb – Instruction and Outreach Librarian

Dr. Qiong Zhang – Associate Professor of History

As you prepare to begin classes, I wanted to provide a brief overview of important dates related to your academic curriculum.

August 26 – The following courses begin on this date: COM110, PSY151, MST111 and any other regularly taught online Wake Forest courses.  These courses will follow the same academic calendar as the Reynolda Campus.  NOTE: Drop/add for any regularly taught online courses will also follow the Reynolda Campus calendar and should be done with the approval of your lower division advisor.  Any requests to change COM110, PSY151, or MST111 require special permission and requests must be sent to the Center for Global Program and Studies.

September 11 – Students arrive in Beijing to begin the residential program.

September 14 – In-person courses (such as FYS100, ECN150, MUS140, HST109) begin.  NOTE: Drop/add for MUS140 and HST109 will be managed by CET during the first week of the residential program.  Students are not able to drop FYS100 or ECN150.

December 21-25 – Final Exams

December 26 – Students depart

Important Note:  If you previously received credit for ECN150 or MST111 (through AP credit, IB credit, etc), please notify the Center for Global Programs immediately.

Along with serving as a resource for answering questions, my colleagues and I also look forward to developing Wake Forest specific programming for all of you.  More information about those opportunities will be provided to you soon.  In the meantime, please reach out at any time if you have questions or concerns.  If I am unable to answer your questions, I am happy to help you find the appropriate person or department.

All the best to each of you,

Janice
