Bottom Line, Up Front

  • Families now have the ability to receive campus security alerts through the Wake Safe app. This will allow you to see the same campus security alerts that your students receive.
  • If you want to receive campus security alerts, you will need to download the Wake Safe app and opt-in to notifications
  • We will no longer send blanket e-mail messages to all undergraduate families when there is a campus security alert. However, campus security alerts will still be published in the Daily Deac.
  • The Wake Ready alerts that families could previously sign up for (which would send an email out at noon if there was an alert in the previous 24 hours) are being discontinued.

Background

For some time, families have been asking if they could receive the same campus security alerts that our students receive. We are pleased to let you know that we now have the capability to include families in campus security alerts through the Wake Safe app.

Actions you must take to receive campus security alerts:

  • Search for and download the Wake Safe app on your mobile device in the app store (Apple or Android).

You will see a popup asking you to Allow Notifications. Tap Allow.

  • Once you have downloaded Wake Safe and enabled notifications, if a campus alert is issued, you will receive a notice on your mobile device.

How to verify you are correctly set up to receive alerts on your mobile phone

  • In your Settings, go to Wake Safe and ensure that you have selected Allow Notifications (we encourage you to select Immediate notifications and to allow both Sounds and Badges).

If you take no action and do not download Wake Safe

  • You will not receive campus security alerts when they go out to the campus community. Wake Forest will no longer be sending separate campus safety alert email messages to families.
  • Campus security alerts will still be included in the Daily Deac blog.
  • The Wake Ready alerts that families could previously sign up for (which would send an email out at noon if there was an alert in the previous 24 hours) are being discontinued.

We encourage all parents and families to download the Wake Safe app and allow notifications so that you can see campus security alerts in real time.
