It’s been a busy month for your students and for the Office of Residence Life and Housing, below are some key updates for parents and families to be aware of:

Important Facilities Information

Students received an email on August 31 providing important information about mold and mildew prevention and response. Read it HERE.

Work orders can be submitted directly to our partners in Facilities and Campus Services by calling their customer service desk at 336-758-4255 (HALL) or online atworkorders.wfu.edu.

Students will soon be receiving information regarding leaf blowing/clean-up. Our grounds teams work very hard to minimize impact on the residential experience, however leaf blowing is a part of life on campus during the fall.  Stay tuned to our Facebook Page for full details.

Fall Room Change Processes

Our open room change period (known as Room Thaw) is currently ongoing. Applications must be received from students by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, September 19th. For more information and/or to apply, please refer your student to go.wfu.edu/roomthaw.

After the open room change period, room changes are reserved for emergencies and/or situations that have attempted mediation and been approved by our Residence Life staff.

Remember, roommate relationships are just that, a relationship. One key to a successful roommate relationship is two-way, face-to-face communication. Residence Life and Housing encourages students who may be experiencing roommate difficulties to discuss matters together, and then to contact their RA if that does not resolve the situation.

Mid-Semester Inspections

Our Mid-Semester Health & Safety Inspections are coming up September 25-28. During this time, community staff will be inspecting every room on campus. Students will be notified of violations and in most cases be given 72 hour to address the problem before being charged for a failed inspection. For more on the inspections process, please visit our website.

Inspection charges will appear on the October student account statements. As a reminder, your student can update their FERPA preferences in WIN. If your student has not indicated that we can release information to you, we will be unable to share details of the charges to you directly.

Looking Ahead

Our residential facilities will remain open during Fall Break (October 12-15) and Thanksgiving Break (November 22-26).

We do close ALL of our communities over the Winter Break. Our facilities close on Sunday, December 17 at 9:00 AM and all students must be out by this time.

Our communities will reopen for all students on January 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM. Stay tuned to our website or Facebook page for details on Spring Semester Early Arrivals, including Sorority Recruitment.
