At approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 11, a motorist called Winston-Salem Police with reports of a person lying in the road at the intersection of Polo Road and Brookwood Drive. Winston-Salem Police responded quickly and brought in Wake Forest University Police to assist.

Police found a Wake Forest student with a gunshot wound in the chest. The earlier crime alert email mistakenly identified the victim as a former Wake Forest student.

The student is in stable condition.

Police currently believe the student was shot during a robbery, but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to call Winston Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700 or Crimestoppers at 336-727-2800.

Both agencies are increasing patrols on campus and in the surrounding area.
