The University Police Department determined tonight that it was a fake handgun that was seen by students in Parking Lot N, between Kitchin and Poteat residence halls, around 9:30 p.m.
Students reported to University Police tonight that they saw what appeared to be two groups of men arguing in the parking lot and that one of the men apparently held a handgun.
An investigation by University Police tonight determined that the handgun was not real. It was a fake gun, described by police as a Nerf gun. Police also determined that all of the individuals involved are Wake Forest students and they were not, actually, arguing.
The University Police Department has identified the students involved. There was no altercation taking place.
The investigation is concluding.

The University Police Department is investigating a report that two groups of men were seen arguing in Parking Lot N tonight and that one of the men appeared to have a handgun. No shots were fired, no one has been reported as injured. The man was not seen pointing the gun at anyone.
The incident, which occurred in the parking lot between Kitchin and Poteat residence halls, was reported to University Police at 9:27 p.m. tonight. Some students saw the incident and contacted University Police.
The University Police Department said that the men fled the parking lot and have not been found on campus. Officers are patrolling the campus, but have not found the individuals on campus. Their identities are not known.
If anyone has information that may assist in the investigation, they are asked by University Police to call 336-758-5911, immediately.
