Dean Franco adds: Ben is super smart and very witty.  More to the point, his work challenges the very field of which he is ostensibly a leader, questioning all the identity-based assumptions underwriting the category “Jewish American literature.”  I don’t always agree with him, but I think his work is powerful and pathbreaking (I’ve been at several conferences with him wherein he’s sparked major debates among senior scholars).  (Sponsored by the WFU Jewish Studies Dept.).
