The Two Zs of Alternative Transportation at WFU
The Office of Sustainability wanted Wake Forest families to have the following information about alternative transportation.
—————–
Encourage your student to zip around Winston-Salem and beyond with the help of Zipcar, a car-sharing service, and Zimride, a campus carpool network. These WFU programs, offered through the Office of Sustainability, reduce the need for, and hassle of, bringing a personal vehicle to campus.
Zipcar
WFU now offers four Zipcars on campus, including our newest location by the North Campus residence halls. If your student is 18 or older, talk to him or her about joining now at www.zipcar.com/wfu. It’s only $25 and with the promo code B2S2013 they get $45 in driving credit to use in the first month. Rates start at $7.50/hr or $69/day and include gas and insurance. Plus, the power to reserve a Zipcar is literally in their hands when they download the free iOS Zipcar app.
Zimride
For students who decide to bring a vehicle to campus, Zimride helps them find other WFU students looking for rides. They can simply visit www.zimride.com/wfu/ and sign up with their WFU email address or login through Facebook to register their trip in the secure network. The free iOS Zimride app makes finding and posting a carpool easy. Students can choose to offer a free ride or ask passengers to help cover the costs of the trip. Either way, they’re not riding alone and are helping keep extra cars off the road during busy weekend and holiday travel times.
