The following message was sent to the campus community on Wednesday evening November 11th.

——–

The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating tonight (November 11) reports by two Wake Forest graduate students of a robbery and an attempted robbery near the University. Neither student was injured in the separate incidents.

A female graduate student reported to University Police that that two dark-skinned men demanded her cell phone at approximately 8:30 p.m. tonight on Howell Street, directly across from Wake Forest’s University Parkway entrance.  She told the men the phone was broken and they did not take it.  She described one man as holding a stick.

Immediately afterward, two dark-skinned men, carrying firearms, approached a male graduate student on Howell Street and demanded his wallet and cell phone.  After taking his wallet and phone, the men drove away in a dark-colored, four-door car. The student said it appeared two other people were in the car. They drove in a direction away from the campus.  The male student called the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Wake Forest police have checked the Wake Forest campus and have not seen any evidence of the suspected robbers coming onto campus.

If anyone has information that may assist in the investigation, they are encouraged to call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 911 or 336-773-7700. They may also call the University Police Department at 336-758-5911.

Both incidents are under investigation by the Winston-Salem Police Department, with assistance by the University Police Department.
