The Office of Communications and External Relations sent the following email to the campus community on Sunday, October 14.

————————-

The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating the robbery of a Wake Forest student that occurred early today (Sunday) just off campus, near the Polo Road entrance to the University.  The student was not injured in the robbery, but he was assaulted.  No weapon was used in the robbery, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m. today.

Today, Winston-Salem police arrested and charged two Winston-Salem men with robbery in the incident. The University Police Department assisted in the investigation.

The student told police that he was approached by two men while he was in the area between Luter Residence Hall and Z. Smith Reynolds Library. They asked for directions to Polo Road.  The student, whose off-campus residence is in that direction, walked with the two men to Polo Road.

They robbed him after he crossed Polo Road and walked along Long Drive toward his nearby residence.  One man grabbed the student while the other man took cash and a cell phone from him. The men ran away.

The student called Winston-Salem police immediately afterward from his residence.
