We are saddened to inform you that John Wesley “Jack” Sawyer, professor emeritus of mathematics and computer science, died July 13 in Winston-Salem.

We grieve Dr. Sawyer’s death and extend our condolences to his family and friends, as well as those at Wake Forest who had the opportunity to know him.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. in Wait Chapel on July 21.  Visitation will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 20. Additional details are available in the online and print editions of the Winston-Salem Journal. 

Dr. Sawyer joined the Wake Forest faculty in 1956 and retired in 1988.  He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Wake Forest.

Wake Forest offers support and counseling services for all students, faculty and staff.  The Counseling Center may be reached at 758-5273, the Chaplain’s Office at 758-5210.  For faculty and staff, there is also the Employee Assistance Program at 716-5493.
