On July 2, the communications center of the University Police Department will move temporarily to a different room in Alumni Hall.

During the relocation to Room 164, there will be no change in how students, faculty, staff and others call the communications center.  The emergency phone numbers will remain 336-758-5911 and 911 (campus phone).  The non-emergency numbers will remain 336-758-5591 and 5591 (campus phone).

The police department’s main lobby and all other offices will remain in their usual location in Alumni Hall.

The move is prompted by renovations to the communications center’s space in Room 127 of Alumni Hall, as well as installation of new communications equipment.  The communications center’s renovation is expected to be finished by Aug. 24.  The communications center will return to the renovated space by that time.

Signs will be placed inside Alumni Hall directing visitors to the temporary location.  Most visitors to the police department, typically, go to the department’s main lobby, and will continue to do so during the renovation.

The police department will also continue to keep a phone just outside the entrance to Alumni Hall in the area where the department is located.  After regular business hours, when the building is locked, visitors to the department can contact the communications center by using the phone there to gain entrance to the building, if needed. A visitor may also use their cell phone to call, too.
