Operation ID
University Police has shared the following information with the Parent Programs office.
———————
The Wake Forest University police department needs your help with encouraging students to register their property. Wake Forest University police have a program called Operation ID. Operation ID is a nationwide program designed to discourage burglary and theft of valuables. It also provides a way for you to easily identify stolen property, and increases law enforcement’s chances of recovery and conviction.
How Do Students Join Operation ID?
Students may borrow an engraving tool from their residence hall director or University Police by leaving their student identification card until they return the engraver. These engravers also are available at hardware stores. Students will use the engraver to etch their driver’s license number and state abbreviation onto their valuables
Students should list any items they engrave on the Operation ID form below and submit to the University Police. Students may wish to make a copy for their family to keep on file at the student’s permanent address.
Identifying marks should be placed on clothing, jewelry, and other items that may be damaged by engraving. Permanent marking pens are available at University Police.
If students have access to a video camera/recorder, they should videotape their valuables and zoom in on serial numbers. Students can also register their bicycles in our bike registration program. There is no charge for registration.
What Items Should Students Mark?
Cell Phones
Bicycles
Cameras and equipment
Automobile accessories
Speakers, stereos and accessories
TVs, VCRs, DVD players and other electronic devices
Operation ID Instructions
Students should engrave personal property with their driver’s license number prefixed by the two-letter state abbreviation. Do not use a Social Security number unless it is the same as the student’s driver’s license number – this number cannot be traced by law enforcement agencies to determine ownership. http://police.wfu.edu/forms-pubs/operation-id/#form
