Notice Regarding Area Water

This week, the City of Winston-Salem announced that maintenance of a city water tank at Wake Forest on March 17 and 18 may cause temporary discoloration of water on campus and in other areas, including Northwest Winston-Salem.  The water may appear red, brown or yellow.

Although discolored, the water will remain safe, the city’s Utilities Division announced. Anyone experiencing discoloration should refrain from washing clothes as any discolored water could stain light-colored clothing.

The water tank will be taken out of service at 8 a.m. March 17 to prepare for a wash out and inspection.  The tank is scheduled to return to service around8 a.m. March 18.

When the tank is taken out of service and then placed back into service, changes in flow patterns in the city’s water distribution system could temporarily result in discolored water.  The affected area will be limited to west of U.S. 52 and north of Business 40 and could include portions of the North, Northwest, West and Southwest wards of the city.
