Message to Study Abroad Students in Europe
The Center for International Studies sent an email to all students studying abroad in Europe in response to the travel alert issued by the U.S. State Department on October 3, 2010. CIS staff reiterated precautions students should take in order to travel safely. Reminders include reviewing the communication plan and emergency procedures for their program, staying in contact with their families, keeping their cell phones charged and with them at all times, and letting others know about any travel away from their host city.
The safety and security of our students remains our primary concern. The CIS is monitoring international developments. All of our study abroad programs in Europe are operating on a normal basis and program staff are reminding students to review their safety information. It is important to note that the State Department travel alert does not discourage Americans from visiting Europe or suggest that they return home. The alert simply reminds students to remain calm and to practice added caution when traveling around their host city or throughout Europe.
During this Fall 2010 semester, a total of 345 Wake Forest students are studying abroad. Students are attending a Wake Forest program abroad or an Affiliate program (approved programs through providers or other universities). The Center for International Studies stays in close communication with all of our abroad programs.
