Dear Undergraduate Students in the College and the Business School:

Given the possibility of inclement weather and campus closings, it is important to plan now for alternative delivery of final exams for your undergraduate courses. If the university remains open, you are expected to complete exams as scheduled.

If the university closes on any day next week, we have recommended that faculty members wherever possible deliver and accept exams via electronic means (email, Sakai, Google docs, etc.) during the regularly scheduled exam time.  Please check your WFU email account frequently for instructions from your faculty members on how and when your final exams will be administered.

Faculty members cannot administer exams in person (or by proxy) if the university is closed.  Therefore, you should be prepared to take your exam electronically during the assigned exam period unless your faculty member communicates an alternative plan.

Professors who believe an electronic exam is untenable will be working out alternatives.  One of these alternatives might be taking the exam during the first week of classes in January.  In such a case, faculty are aware that they will need to make special accommodations for students graduating in December, students studying abroad in the spring semester, and other students who will need their final grades to be assigned before January.

Our exam-related policies will continue to apply if the campus is closed.  These include the following:

  • Students cannot be required to take more than two exams within a 24-hour period.
  • Students cannot be required to take an exam before their officially assigned exam time.
  • Although students must have the option to take their exams during the assigned times (if the university is open or if delivered electronically), alternative exam times can be offered on an optional basis.

In the case of a delayed opening, official exam times will be adjusted accordingly and announced as part of regular updates.

Facilities reports that they do not expect the storm to be strong enough to cause any issues with power outages on campus.  The reliability of our power grid gives them confidence that the university is not at risk with this pending storm.

The library intends to be open 24/7 regardless of the university closing.

These are unique circumstances in which we must all come together as a community. We cannot emphasize enough the importance of respecting the Honor Code in your role as a critical member of this special community. As you take your final exams, remember that you have signed an agreement to uphold a culture of honesty and integrity at Wake Forest.  We trust in your commitment to uphold this core value of our university community.

Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and goodwill under these unusual circumstances. Please be confident that the university is working hard to address all needs and challenges.
