The following message was sent to residents of Bostwick and Johnson Halls about their move to Luter for the spring semester.

Hi –

Believe it or not, we’ve made it to the last full month of the fall semester. Per previous messages, we hope you’ve begun to think about the ‘when’ and ‘how’ of preparing for your move to Luter Hall – facilitated by our office once you leave campus for Winter Break.

This email lays out a checklist of this entire process for you. Each section provides you a one to two-line summary of actions you should take before leaving campus in December with the context as to why each is important.

Packing Materials

TO DO:

Alert your RA if you have not received boxes and labels by November 12th.

Next week, each resident of Bostwick and Johnson will receive 10 boxes. Soon after, pre-printed labels with their name and future room assignment in Luter will be dropped off at your room. Upon receipt, you can begin to pack your room and belongings on your own timeframe over the coming weeks.

Those who do not receive these materials, or believe they may need more, should work with hall staff as soon as possible to make sure they have the materials needed.

Packing Your Belongings

TO DO:

Traveling home for Thanksgiving? Bring items home that you won’t use again in the spring.

Use this Packing List to complete the boxing/labeling of all items you’d like moved.

As you pack, be sure to keep in mind what you’ll want access to before January, what items you wouldn’t want to leave behind (valuables, breakables, etc.) and how you’ll plan to condense and group your items together.

Anything that isn’t boxed or is without a label (for large items that cannot fit in a box) will not be moved.

Checking Out

TO DO:

Make a plan for the day you’ll be departing campus.

Complete check-out with RL&H staff to return your room key and complete your packed items audit.

During finals week (Monday, December 6th through Sunday, December 12th), a staff member from RL&H will be available in the lobby of your building from 9 AM to 5 PM to do a final walk-through of your room, ensuring all your belongings are ready for the move and collecting your room key so that you are not fined.

Completing a check out with a staff member is important: it allows us to create a record of your belongings should you have any questions or concerns once moved to Luter and eliminates the risk of you leaving campus with your room key and facing a charge.

If you are leaving after 5 PM, call the RA on-duty to complete this process. No staff will be available after 10 PM. Residence Halls close at 2 PM on December 12th.

Over break, movers will place all of your labeled items in your new space in Luter Hall. You’ll be given the chance to return to campus on January 6th so that you’re able to set up your new room and get to know your new building; You’ll receive updates and check-in instructions in December.

Should you have any questions between now and break, please contact our office at 336.758.5185 or housing@wfu.edu.
