Caitlin Thompson, Senior Benefits Administrator, has asked all parents of new students (who will enroll at Wake Forest in January 2011) to be aware of the following student health insurance requirement.  Full details of her message are below.

—————————————————

Dear Wake Forest Parents,

Wake Forest, like almost all private colleges and universities, requires health insurance for students. Full information regarding eligibility can be found on the FAQ page. Your student must go online to enroll in the Student Blue health insurance or waive coverage if their current health insurance meets the minimum criteria set by WFU. They must enroll or waive by January 7, 2011.

Your student will be automatically enrolled in the Student Blue insurance plan offered by WFU if they do not complete a waiver by January 7, 2011.

The criteria for the student insurance program are as follows:

  • Have a lifetime maximum benefit of at least $1,000,000
  • Provide access to health care providers in the Winston-Salem, NC area for emergency and non-emergency conditions, including mental health care
  • Provide prescription drug benefits
  • Remain in effect for the 2010-2011 benefit year-through July 31, 2011

International students with F or J visas will not have the option to waive from the Student Blue unless they are covered by a plan reviewed and approved by the University based on the criteria above. To have a plan reviewed, email the policy to studentinsurance@wfu.edu. If you are considering purchasing insurance in lieu of Student Blue, please contact the Student Insurance Program in advance to ensure the plan is acceptable.

Insurance decisions will apply to the remainder of the 2010-2011 Academic Year (spring and summer).

Should you have questions or comments, please contact Student Life at studentinsurance@wfu.edu or 336.758.4247.

Sincerely,

Caitlin Thompson
