The Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at Wake Forest will hold a public program on Sunday, February 8, in honor of Clayton Lane Bruntjen, a Wake Forest junior who died unexpectedly on February 5 at his off-campus residence.

The Alpha Sigma Phi Black Lantern Processional will begin at 6 p.m. on Hearn Plaza.  Everyone is invited, including students, faculty and staff.  The fraternity expects members from other schools to attend.  A number of chapters from North Carolina and Virginia will be represented.

The processional is one of the fraternity’s oldest traditions, dating to the 19th Century when it first began at Yale University to announce newly accepted members.  In this particular instance, it is being held to remember their deceased brother Clayton Bruntjen.

The processional will be performed at Wake Forest in complete silence.  It will be distinguished, in part, by the clothing of the fraternity participants, who will wear loose fitting robes.

At a later date, the University will announce the Bruntjen Family’s plans for a service for Clayton.  If a University service is scheduled, that will be announced, too.

For those grieving at Wake Forest, the University offers assistance to all.  The Counseling Center may be reached at 758-5273.  The Chaplain’s Office may be reached at 758-5210.  For faculty and staff, there is also the Employee Assistance Program at 716-5493.  Please do not hesitate to seek support.
