Dear Wake Forest Students, Faculty and Staff,

I am saddened to announce that Denise Franklin, a third-year Master of Divinity student at the School of Divinity, died October 31 while undergoing care at a Winston-Salem hospital.

We extend our condolences to her family and fellow students, as well as faculty and staff who knew her.  Her passing is a loss for the entire Wake Forest community.  May Ms. Franklin’s family and friends find comfort and support as they grieve her loss and remember her life.

Ms. Franklin was a well-known person in our region of the state, having been a news anchor at television station WXII before managing radio station WFDD at Wake Forest several years ago. Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Communication.

A celebration for Ms. Franklin’s life is scheduled for Nov. 7 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 450 Metropolitan Drive, Winston-Salem.  The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. and a funeral service will follow at 12 noon.

Wake Forest offers support and counseling services for all students, faculty and staff.  The University Counseling Center may be reached at 758-5273 and the Office of the Chaplain may be contacted at 758-5210.  For faculty and staff, there is also the Employee Assistance Program at 716-5493.  Please do not hesitate to seek support.

Sincerely,
