Parents and families,

As we continue to respond to the fertilizer plant fire, we wanted to share the update that was just sent to campus. Key points:

Out of an abundance of caution and in response to the continued disruption and displacement of students, faculty, and staff living in the voluntary evacuation zone, Wake Forest will cancel classes on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

It remains safe for students to be on Reynolda campus. Local officials have been and continue to monitor readings from air monitoring equipment around the site of the fire and on campus and have found no health concerns

Voluntary evacuation remains in effect and is expected to continue until at least 11 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) night. Residents of the area should not return to their homes until notified it is safe to do so.

Students with questions regarding urgent housing concerns should contact 336-758-3473. The Student Support Center in the Wellbeing Center remains available in conference room A330, and students also can email housing@wfu.edu.

You can read the full message, which includes additional details, below. The next update is planned for tomorrow morning. We encourage you to bookmark wakealert.wfu.edu and follow Wake Alert on Twitter and Facebook.

Thank you for your patience during this challenging situation. Crisis situations often involve rapidly changing conditions and emerging details. We are bringing you the most complete information we have as soon as we have it. And know that we share the same goal of your students’ safety and providing them with any needed support.
