A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Winston-Salem and surrounding areas from midnight tonight until 7 a.m. Friday. Significant icing is expected with possible accumulations of one-quarter to one-half inch.

Power outages and tree damage are likely. Hazardous conditions could make travel extremely difficult throughout the day and evening tomorrow.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to stay alert to weather forecasts and for any additional University messaging during this time.

In preparation for winter weather conditions and possible power outages, faculty, staff and students may find the following tips helpful:

  • Charge all your devices (phone, laptop, etc.) before the storm.
  • Have some non-perishable food and water available.
  • Use caution when outdoors as slick areas may exist.
  • Avoid walking under tree limbs and power lines that have ice on them.
  • Have a flashlight with fresh batteries on hand.

In the event of a weather emergency, Wake Forest will use the Wake Alert emergency notification system to communicate with students, faculty and staff. Learn more about alerts and updates from Wake Ready here.

All current COVID-related policies as outlined on the Our Way Forward website remain in effect.
