The Student Insurance Program office provided the following information for parents and families about the 2014-15 Student Insurance Plan.

—————-

Wake Forest University is pleased to continue offering a comprehensive student health insurance plan that includes a low deductible in-network, no lifetime plan maximum, reasonable co-pays and unlimited prescription drug coverage.

Whether our students are in Winston-Salem, at home or studying abroad, they have the option to receive excellent health benefits compliant with the Affordable Care Act and standards endorsed by the American College Health Association through BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.

Our 2014-15 rates and benefit changes are available at www.wfu.edu/sip. Those enrolled in the 2013-2014 student insurance plan will notice certain benefit and rate changes, including “age-banding” premium changes.   The State of North Carolina no longer allows “age-banding” of premiums within individual products (i.e., Student Blue, BCBSNC plan). For the 2014-15 year, Wake Forest must pay a consolidated rate for all students to BCBSNC. Wake Forest has elected to subsidize the cost of majority of our students under the age of 25. Therefore, the rates you see will show only a slightly higher rate for students over age 25.

Historically, Wake Forest students have enjoyed rates lower than competitive plans, and we have done everything within our power to keep coverage as affordable as possible. Plan changes are not unique to Wake Forest, although our 2014-2015 rates remain comparable to other college and university offerings. However, they were necessary to keep pace with rising health care costs nationally and to deliver the quality of health insurance many students rely upon.

Additional information about our student insurance plan, including benefits, rates, deadlines and FAQ, are available online.
