Registration for the spring semester is coming up: first-year students will register during the latter half of first week of November. Navigating the course catalog and building a balanced schedule can bring a mix of excitement and anxiety.

While your student may turn to you for input, academic choices are best guided by our campus professionals:

  • Students should partner with their academic advisor: Every first-year student must meet with their academic advisor to discuss their academic plan and have their registration hold removed.

  • Flip the script: If your student asks you what classes they should take, redirect them with open questions: “What has your advisor recommended?” or “What requirements are you focusing on next?”

  • Trust the campus network: Official campus advisors in the Office of Academic Advising know our curriculum requirements thoroughly and are best equipped to help your student build an optimal schedule. Families will serve their students best by letting the campus experts do all the advising.

Watching your student take the wheel of their own education is a beautiful milestone. Step by step, they are charting their own successful path, backed by your steady support.
