Today we are getting a hint of cooler weather – a sign that Fall might not be too far off. It is still going to be warm this week (see below):

Temps in the 70s! I can’t wait! I don’t even mind the chance of rain. And I bet most of our students are ready for cooler weather too.
Today we have some important information about voting, as that is a question I have been getting a lot recently from our parents and families, and also a couple of optional learning opportunities. Let’s get to it!
Voting information via Deacs Decide
Today is National Voter Registration Day, and from 12-6 p.m., there will be volunteers in the Tribble Courtyard to help students learn about the voting process, how to register, and how to be election ready.
The Office of Civic and Community Engagement has a very robust website about voting in the midterm election. The page is so full of info that I can’t copy it all here, but will copy a couple of selected bits:
For students wanting to vote in NC
“There are several ways to participate in elections in North Carolina, including One-Stop Early Voting, Election Day Voting, and Absentee Voting. Explore the options below to find the voting method that works best for you.
Not sure if you are registered to vote or where you are registered? You can check your voter registration status online.
2026 Election Dates to Know
October 9, 2026, at 5 p.m.
North Carolina Voter Registration Deadline
Register to vote by this deadline if you plan to vote on Election Day or request an absentee ballot in North Carolina.
October 15–31, 2026
One-Stop Early Voting
One-Stop Early Voting begins Thursday, October 15, and continues through Saturday, October 31, at 3 p.m. ET. During this period, you can register to vote or update your registration and vote during the same visit at any One-Stop Early Voting location in Forsyth County. Early voting locations will be announced at a later date.
October 20, 2026, at 5 p.m. ET
Absentee Ballot Request Deadline
This is the deadline to request an absentee ballot in North Carolina. Students who are registered to vote in another state should check with their local election office for absentee voting requirements and deadlines.

For students wanting to vote in their home state
“If you decide to register in your home state, you will need to request an absentee ballot. Absentee voting rules and deadlines vary by state and county. If you are registered to vote outside of North Carolina, contact your local election office for information about requesting and returning an absentee ballot in your state.
You can check your voter registration status online.”
Final thoughts
No matter where your students are voting, they will need to do a careful reading of voting requirements (e.g., ID required? etc.), dates and deadlines to vote, etc. So encourage them to research that now and make their plan.
Solving Hard Problems with AI workshop
There is an upcoming workshop sponsored by the School of Business that is open to all students. It’s about how to solve hard problems with AI:
“Wake Forest School of Business faculty share how they’re using AI today—practical skills and workflows that go beyond prompting, which you can apply the next day! Solving Hard Problems with AI will be led by Associate Dean for MBA and Working Professional Programs and Associate Teaching Professor, Dr. Justin Martin.
This workshop will be delivered in two formats: in-person and virtual. For those who prefer to attend in-person, the workshop will be held on the WFU Reynolda campus in Farrell Hall (room 151). For those who prefer virtual delivery, a Zoom link will be emailed the day prior to the workshop. You must select which format you prefer when registering.
Registration is required.”

P’29s with students interested in Finance: encourage your sophomores to apply to the Finance Accelerator
My friends in the OPCD shared this information about an important upcoming prep course that may help sophomores interested in Finance secure internships. They tell me that when students miss out on top-tier finance internships, it almost always comes down to two things: not casting a wide enough net, or getting caught off-guard by technical interview questions. So they are hosting a Finance Accelerator on October 17th:
