What if your student is ill? How do they notify faculty? After hours help for illnesses

The fall tends to bring on fall illnesses, and in fact some of my students have been out sick. So I thought it would be a good time to remind families of available resources for times when students are not feeling well.

The Office of Academic Advising has this website to help students know where to begin. Direct communication with faculty about an illness is key.

Deacon Health has an on-call nurse system (available 24/7) to assist students with current healthcare concerns during non-clinic hours. Students should call 336.758.5218 and follow the prompts. A list of off-campus providers is available here.

Career Fair reminder

Encourage your student to attend the Fall Career Fair  on Sept. 16 in Sutton Center. With over 60 employers registered, your student can research the employers in Handshake and learn about internship or full-time hiring opportunities. The fair is also an easy way for first-year and sophomore students to explore potential jobs, companies, and careers.

Panhellenic (i.e., sorority) recruitment info

Spring 2027 Panhellenic Recruitment registration opens September 7 and closes November 15, 2026. Formal recruitment requires a registration fee of $180. This fee covers early arrival accommodations, PNM shirts, and refreshments.

Students should register using a computer, as the registration page may not work properly on a cell phone. More information is available on the Fraternity and Sorority Engagement website.

Climb to Remember photostory and Q&A

The Climb to Remember is a way Wake Forest students, faculty, staff, and members of the community commemorate the anniversary of September 11. You can see more from this year’s Climb to Remember photostory and this Q&A with Lieutenant Colonel John Flach.

I happened to be in NYC this past Friday with my Wake roommate and we happened to be right near Ladder 24 as they were honoring their fallen comrades and the events of 9/11. It was a remarkably moving thing to witness.
