It’s still warm in Winston-Salem, but you can start to see some hints of fall: some of the leaves are starting to yellow and fall off the trees, some of our mornings feel crisp and cool. We are fortunate to have so many months of the year where we can enjoy all the beautiful green space on and around campus.

Here are a few items that may be of interest today.

Dates for free flu shots for students

Deacon Health is once again offering influenza vaccines on campus for students, free of charge. No appointment is necessary for mobile flu shot clinics. Dates/times are:

We have two items today that are meant for current sophomores:

Upcoming meeting for intended business majors

Intended business majors within the Class of 2029 will be invited to attend an Admissions Overview meeting on Sunday, September 27 at 1 or 2 p.m. in Farrell Hall. These meetings are for ’29 students only.

During the session, ’29 students will receive an overview of the School of Business application process, including application requirements, important dates, and key deadlines. The session will provide students with a clear understanding of the admissions timeline and the steps they will need to take as they prepare to apply to the School of Business.

Students will also have an opportunity to ask questions and gain additional clarity about the application process to ensure they are prepared to meet upcoming requirements and deadlines.

Scholars in Capitalism Studies: Discover the Ideas Shaping Business and Society 

Some of my faculty colleagues shared this info, which might be of interest to some of our current sophomores:

“What makes markets work, societies prosper, and individuals thrive? Wake Forest’s Scholars in Capitalism Studies gives students the opportunity to explore ideas that shape business and society, and learn from accomplished business and community leaders through one-on-one mentorship.

Beyond coursework, Scholars build relationships with peers, faculty, and mentors that enrich their experience at Wake Forest and continue well beyond the program. Students must apply in the fall of their sophomore year and begin in the spring of their sophomore year. 

The program is accepting applications through October 9. Students can learn more about the program and how to apply.“

Alternative Fall Break Trip

I saw this advertised by our Women’s Center today and thought it may be of interest to some of our students:

“Ready for an outdoor adventure? Apply for our free Fall Alternative Break (FAB) camping trip to Cherokee National Forest, happening October 10–12. Gear, transportation, and food are all included, making this a great opportunity for first-time and experienced campers alike. Applications are open through Friday, October 2, so apply now!”
