In this Issue: student employment on campus (which can benefit all students!)

I am on PTO today, so this is a pre-post, shared from my colleagues who work in HR and Student Employment

Did you know that on-campus student employment is available to all Wake Forest students, not only those who receive federal financial aid or work-study funding? This also includes international students.

Working on campus offers students far more than extra spending money. Whether serving in Campus Recreation, the library, or an academic department, students gain transferable skills, build their resumés, and increase their marketability for future internships and careers. Beyond professional growth, holding a campus job fosters leadership, professionalism, and a lasting sense of belonging and connection within the WFU community.

If your student is interested in working on campus this fall, be sure they bring the appropriate documentation with them:

• Student employees are required by federal law to complete the Form I-9. Employees must provide this documentation to WFU to verify their identity and authorization to work.
• It’s important to note that employers are required to review the original and unexpired documents, not a photo, copy, or video. A list of acceptable documents is available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-9 website.
• International students should check out the International Student Employment section of the Learn and Earn at WFU webpage for further instructions.

There is a wide variety of jobs available, all of which cap at 20 hours per week. Human Resources’ Student Employment webpages are updated throughout the year with the latest information. Using their WFU credentials, students can log in to view the official job board, or they can reach out to schools, departments, and offices to ask about opportunities.

If none of the positions on the job board are what your student is looking for, they can keep their options open by joining the Student Talent Pool, which ensures that their skills and availability are front-and-center for campus supervisors actively scouting for new talent. To learn more and chat with Melanie Hylton, Student Employee Manager, students are encouraged to drop by the Campus Services and Information Fair from 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Sutton Center or Arrive and Thrive from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Manchester Plaza.
