It is brutally hot today and the sun is out. We are supposed to hit 94 (but feel like 97) today, and hit a near record high of 97 tomorrow.

This kind of heat makes everyone a bit sluggish – myself included – so just two quick hits today 🙂

Deacs on campus who need to stay cool: try the pool

Hopefully all our Deacs here in summer school can spend a good deal of time inside during this heat. For those students, did you know you can swim at the Wellbeing Center’s pool? You can find the schedule at the Aquatics calendar. Look for Lap Swim and Free Play times.

It’s a big, beautiful pool, and there is a hot tub too if you need to ease your muscles for a few minutes after a swim.

Shout out for our parents.wfu.edu website

Forgive me in advance for tooting our own horn 🙂 One of my colleagues shared this nice little video that Higher Ed Storytelling created about our parents.wfu.edu website.

For many of our Daily Deac readers, I suspect you might not often go to parents.wfu.edu for a couple of reasons: 1) we try to give you just-in-time info via the Daily Deac, 2) you are a P’30 or ’30 and you spend most of your Wake website time on Newstudents.wfu.edu (which is where you are supposed to be looking up until move-in), or 3) you email or reply to a Daily Deac to get help when you need it. And all of those are valid options!.

But if you haven’t taken a gander at parents.wfu.edu, this short video gives you a little overview of what you will find there, in case that is helpful.

Pages on parents.wfu.edu that might be worth bookmarking

The aforementioned video talks about a few pages that might be worth bookmarking or reviewing, and I have a couple of must-see pages to recommend:

Glossary – goes over some of the common names of offices, functions, etc. on campus. Many of these have changed since I was a student (e.g., we no longer say “dorm,” we say “residence hall” or “residential community”)

Who to Contact For – how to know which office to call for which particular situation

After Hours Help – who to contact if there is an urgent situation after hours that cannot wait until offices reopen the next day

Family and Medical Emergencies – how to alert Wake to a serious situation within your family that could impact your students

We.wfu.edu referrals – How to Share a Concern about Your Student (or another person on campus)

And we are always, always open to feedback and suggestions on what works for you on our website or other communications, what you need to know and can’t easily find, etc. Some of our best improvements have come directly from our families, so please feel free to hit ‘Reply’ on any Daily Deac and send me your suggestions for consideration. We may not be able to all of them, but we will make as many improvements as we can!

Stay cool wherever you are, Daily Deacdom!
