Beautiful week ahead
In this Issue:

- Weekly message for P’29s: navigating the residential experience and homesickness
After what felt like a brutally hot day on Saturday, cooler temperatures are here, and it is very welcome. In fact, all of this week looks like it will be gorgeous:
I hope all our students will take advantage of this weather and spend a lot of time outdoors. There are so many picnic tables, benches, adirondack chairs, cafe tables, etc. for students to use. Soak up a little vitamin D and eat/read/talk outdoors!
Here are a few things that you need to know on this fine Monday…
Fall Career Fair – Sept. 17
My friends in the OPCD (Office of Personal and Career Development) asked me to share this with the Daily Deacdom:
“Talk to your student about attending the Fall Career Fair next Weds., Sept. 17 from noon-4 p.m. in the Sutton Center. This event is designed for students of every major and class year. It’s a fantastic chance for them to meet with real employers about jobs and internships, even if they’re not sure what they want to do yet. Just a little push from you might be what they need to take this important step.
A few of our registered employers are Alex Lee, Alliance Bernstein. BRG – Health Analytics Practice, Carnival Cruise Line, Epic, FBI, General Mills, GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group), PepsiCo, Plaid Technologies, Ralph Lauren, Red Ventures, Truist, Wells Fargo, and more.”

Panhellenic Info Session – Sept. 10
My colleagues in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement have asked me to share the following:

You can see the flyer below.
Weekly message for P’29s: navigating the residential experience and homesickness
As we do every Monday, we publish a message on our First-Year Families/P’29s page that has to do with something your ’29 students might be going through at this point. This week’s message is about navigating residential life and homesickness.
And I want to offer a word of reassurance to our P’29s: it is not at all unusual for your ’29 to still be feeling uncertain, unsettled, and unmoored in the college experience. They have only been here a few weeks. No one is expected to have fully established a friend group, a routine, and/or to feel 100% comfortable yet. Your ’29s are experiencing so much change all at once, so do not be alarmed if they are telling you they feel like they don’t fit in, they haven’t found their people yet, etc.
Encourage your ’29s to go to activities and join student organizations. If they did not get connected to potential groups at the Fall Involvement Fair last week, they can search The Link for groups to join, or get some advice from the Office of Student Engagement on how to get involved.
As a reminder, our We Are Wake initiative is here to help students in distress or who need support. Families can call 336-758-CARE (2273) or go online to make a referral if they are concerned their student needs support, and students can self-refer as well. The case managers will make some caring outreach to the student in question and help them connect to resources.
