T Minus 2 Weeks
In this Issue:
- Cheer on Men’s Club Lacrosse this afternoon
- Message to seniors about post-graduation job search resources
By the time this hits your inbox today, there will only be two more days of finals (tomorrow and Wednesday), and then all that is left is the countdown to graduation! There are a number of Commencement meetings this week, and I will be working with my colleagues on final info to share with our P’25s; thanks for your patience as those final details come together.
Finals are a funny time. I happened to be running an errand late on Saturday and as I drove by campus, I saw a student walking with what looked like 5 or 6 full boxes of pizza in their hands. That’s the study group I want to be a part of!
Just two quick items today because the closer we get to Commencement, the busier everything gets!
Cheer on Men’s Club Lacrosse this afternoon
There’s some great news to share from the Club Sports world:
“The men’s club lacrosse team will be playing in Division 2 of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) National Championship today at 3:45 p.m. CST/4:45 p.m. EST against St. Thomas (MN).
There is a live stream available for purchase at MCLA TV — $15/game or $45/tournament.”
My sources tell me that the game may be delayed because multiple games are being played on the field they are scheduled on and rain is likely, so know the schedule could vary.
Good luck to our Deacs!
Message to seniors about post-graduation job search resources
The OPCD has shared a message that it sent to our seniors about support available to them post-graduation. It reads, in part:
“We’re here to support you now and beyond graduation. That’s right. Support doesn’t end with graduation. If you are still seeking, here are three things you can do for your job search:
- Need to get started? As a Wake alum, you have access to a unique resource: the Jumpstart: A Job Search Strategy Prep Course.
- Sign-up with the free WFU option, and you will receive a confirmation with detailed instructions, including that you need to make a public Canvas account (NOT your WFU Canvas one), and you will be given a Join Code that will let you self-enroll in the course.
- After taking the course, you will have set a job target, updated marketing materials, a networking strategy, and created an action plan.
- Need additional support? Schedule an appointment through Handshake. If you can’t find an open day and time, let me know. I’ll also be available to meet this summer, even after you graduate.
- Applying and not landing? Consider reviewing your resume and casting a wider net for your job to gain experience and develop skills for your next role. Use Handshake to set up searches that will bring opportunities to your account.
- You’ll still have access to Handshake to search for and apply to opportunities after graduation.
- And the secret ingredient is the Wake network. Here’s how to find them: Wake alums and resources for networking. They can help get your resume seen.
- Internships are also a great way to get your foot in the door and build connections within the organization and industry.
- Get real-time support. Follow @lifeafterwake on Instagram for immediate resources, check out the Alumni Personal and Career Development site, and lifelong career support.
Know what you are doing after graduation? Great! Please take three minutes to fill out this quick First Destination Survey, even if you’ve already shared it with me. It really helps your fellow Deacs. Looking forward to learning about your plans!
